As Rice learned, moving back into the rigors of academia isn’t always the simplest of transitions. So don’t load up with more than one or two classes at first, Kay said. Rather, “dip your toe into the water” by taking a light load at the beginning.
“I’m really a big promoter of testing the waters before you give up a job full time or commit to classes and money,” she said. Make sure that the work is interesting enough, or that reading a book or taking some seminars wouldn’t work just as well.
